What You Should Know About Car Donations

July 29, 2008

by Ray Lam

People always consider donating money a great way to help a worthy cause. Cars that are not being used make good donations, enabling many less fortunate people to have a means of transportation.

Not only that, you also get a great feeling knowing that your car donation will go towards a great charity. Either your old car can be donated directly to a charity for good use or your old car can sold by a car donation service and the proceeds will go to a helpful charity.

A car donation may give the benefit of a tax deduction to the donor. Once the charity picks up the car, they will give you a receipt that can be filed in most states with your taxes. A car donation provides an organization with the required funds and means for its activities worldwide. Neglected victims of natural calamities and sick people facing monetary hardship benefit from this type of donation, and it brings hope in the life of many helpless people.

When you decide to do a car donation you can feel good that you are doing something to help others and in some cases you can also get a tax write-off for car donation. You can find many sites on the internet that are dedicated to connecting people who are looking to get rid of old cars and those organizations that can definitely use such a wondrous gift.

Making sure that you give your car to car donation is a great way for your family to see that giving to others is an important part of being part of a community and helping those who are less fortunate. Nothing feels better inside than helping others who need help and making car donation to any charity you are excited about can do that.

Avis - Changing the Rental Car Industry

July 29, 2008

by Leroy Calstard

Today there are many car rental companies but in its infancy, rental car companies were a luxury and only a few companies existed. Agencies were located in large metropolitan cities, not at airports like they are today and there were few companies that branched out internationally. This changed with Avis Rent A Car.

Avis Rent A Car was one of the first rental car agencies and it started with an aggressive business plan which proved successful. Avis has maintained its status as an industry leader and, in many ways, has kept an edge on the competition. Here is a short history of Avis and how they revolutionized the car rental industry.

Small Beginnings

Warren Avis opened Avis Rent A Car in Detroit, Michigan at the Willow Run Airport in 1946. With less than $100,000 he opened the first car rental business located at an airport; a risky move with a considerable amount of money at the time. He wanted to grow fast while providing excellent customer service. Warren Avis’ marketing plan was successful and he soon opened a rental office at the Miami Airport. He decided to expand his business internationally and soon started selling Avis franchises in Canada, Mexico and Europe. His company was making money and expanding rapidly.

Avis Sells

Warren Avis had created a successful business based on a revolutionary idea. He sold his business in 1954 to a Boston businessman for $8 million; a staggering profit in less than 10 years. The Avis name had established itself in the US and worldwide and become a respected company. Therefore, the Avis name remained and even after changing hands many times, continues on even today.

Growing Fast

Avis Rent A Car opened up its European headquarters in Britain in 1960. In just a short time it had become an international company owned by a large holding company. The holding company soon branched out and developed additional business interests.

In 1963 Avis adopted the slogan “We Try Harder” and developed an ad campaign around it. It proved to be such a successful slogan that it continues on today and has become one of the most recognized in the industry.

Avis Today

Now Avis Rent A Car is one of the most widely known and respected rental agencies in the world. From the meager beginnings of a rental agency at one airport to a multi-million dollar company, Avis has proved that its strategy has worked and continues to do so.

Next time you rent a car, rent with one of the most recognized and successful rental companies. To book a car, call their reservation department or book online. You’ll see why they have been so successful and why customers keep coming back.

Air Intake Charge as an Art and a Science

July 29, 2008

by Ricardo d Argence

Do you have an air intake on your shopping list? If you aren’t sure as to how each of these products functions, don’t hesitate as to which is the better choice. There are many different styles to pick from. Among the most popular styles of air intake charge kits are the Short Ram, Long Ram Cold, and the Ram.

The difference between the short and long ram systems are that the short ram systems has a shorter tube to bring in cold air. On average they are not equally efficient when they are compared side by side and examined to the long ram cold air intake system. Since they will pull in warmer, less dense air, considering how closer it is to the engine block. Most importantly, they still beat most other kinds of stock air intake systems.

Long Ram Cold Systems produce greater gas mileage and horsepower by increasing volumetric efficiency in a vehicle’s cylinders. Efficiency is increased by removing stock air boxes that are confined by replacing them with a smoother flowing mandrel bent tubing. The greater the speed of the air flow to the engine also determines the amount of air available.

The air is cooler and denser upon going into the engine with this version of air intake. Air that is the furthest from the engines is the air being pulled into the intake because it’s cooler air. Allowing more air into the air intake also increases the efficiency of any filters.

Ram Systems uses outside air then forces induction into your vehicle’s engine. A vehicle with a “scoop” in its hood is often evidence of the presence of a ram air intake. The air gushes into the intake all the way through the tubing connected in the scoop. The speed of air that comes from the intake grows as the speed of the vehicle increases.

Horsepower is created when this system boosts during high speed and creats good, dense, cold and high velocity air for your engine. By forcing the induction, the long ram systems are able to capitalize the market. In order to reach the high speed air that comes through the car’s front bumper, you will need to put the air filter low.

If you are wondering how you could get the best air intake system and the differences between the brands and designs here are some tips:

1. Look for the dyno proven results of the particular air intake system you are considering to buy. You will then be provided with an accurate or correct representation of how it will work on your car.

2. Many believe the common misconception that bigger is always better when dealing with air intake systems, but do not play the fool and fall for this. Circumstances determine the truth of this.

Is water for gas a SCAM?

July 29, 2008

by Ken Arinuma

In this day and age can you blame me for always looking for the latest fuel hybrid technologies. If it helps the planet and puts some cash in my pocket then… I really want to know about it!

I investigated Water4Gas with some keen doubt thanks to its brightly colored sales page. It seemed to be full of hype and, frankly, too good to be true.

Honestly, to say we were amazed would be an understatement. before we get to far along, let’s talk a little about the knowledge behind this…

Water4Gas uses a “censored” technology that is 90 years old and simplifies it. The device separates water from gasoline by using your car’s battery. The resulting energy known as HHO is 3 times more potent than gasoline.

The product offered here is practically the only alternative to “Hybrid Fuels” which have been properly tested.

Best Gas Mileage Cars - Not Just the Usual Suspects!

July 29, 2008

by Leona Allen

The best gas mileage cars include the Toyota Prius hybrid. However, they also include a few surprises, vehicles that may not come to mind when we think top fuel efficiency.

Gas prices seem to be going up and up. The price of oil is still very unstable, which means gas prices are unstable. That also almost always means they will continue to rise.

The best gas mileage cars are also the newest cars, which means most of us don’t have them, and most of us aren’t in a position to buy a new car right now. Besides, that would defeat the purpose of paying less money for gas.

The $21,100 Toyota Prius is the current top performer, with a Combined EPA estimate of 42 mpg. In addition to the Prius it Toyota’s Corolla, the Honda Civic hybrid, and the Mini Cooper. Surprisingly, the Toyota Altima is on the Top 10 list.

Along with the Toyota Prius, many of the top gas mileage cars are what you might expect, however not all of them are obvious.

Few people are predicting that oil will stabilize anytime soon. That means that the price of gas probably won’t stabilize anytime soon either. The one benefit, if it can be called a benefit, is that people are a lot more cognizant of their energy and gas consumption.

Even though gas prices aren’t likely to drop in the near term, there are steps we can take now. If we can’t drive the best gas mileage car, we can make the care we do drive more efficient by keeping the tires inflated properly, making sure they’re aligned, and keeping our engines properly tuned.

Vehicle Parking Assist Systems Explained

July 29, 2008

by Jason Lancaster

Vehicles of virtually every type and make have been steadily growing over the past ten years. “Entry level” cars by companies like BMW are almost the same size nowadays as a mid-size car from a decade ago. One of the consequences of vehicle sizes expanding is that parking now is harder than ever.

The vehicle growth spurt is most visible in the pickup truck segment, where even such “small” trucks as the Dodge Dakota are now so big that they dwarf earlier models. Full-size trucks too have grown, getting heavier, wider and taller. Toyota vehicles have followed this market trend. When it was first introduced, the Toyota Tundra was a mid-size pickup aimed at the full-size crowd. But when Toyota realized they could fit more buyers in a larger vehicle, the 2007 Tundra redesign ballooned the truck in almost every dimension.

While size does matter, all of that increased mass is nowhere near as easy to park as it used to be. For instance, when you ride in a new Toyota Tundra, you’ll probably find it difficult to tell exactly where the truck begins and ends. Vehicle designers, in an effort to make our lives easier, have come up with something called “parking assist” to help overcome this issue.

“Parking assist” is, on most vehicles, a system of sensors mounted on one or both sets of bumpers which beeps as the vehicle approaches an object. The beeps usually begin from about 6 feet away from an obstacle, and increase in frequency as you approach, becoming a continuous tone at about 6 inches from the obstacle. Beeping frequency and onset vary between different systems. The parking assist is a great tool for parallel parking, and can also serve as a warning if a small object such as a fence post or child is near your vehicle. But how does it work?

The system works using a set of “eyes”, or special sensors, mounted in the vehicle’s bumpers. The sensors regularly transmit highly focused sound waves from the bumpers, which are reflected back towards the sensor whenever they hit a solid object. Since sound travels at a fairly constant speed through air, a computer can calculate the distance between the bumper and object based on the amount of time it takes for the signal to return to the bumper. Submarines using active sonar underwater employ the same basic principle, although water transmits sound better than air, which results in better range for the submarine sensors.

The system is effective with detecting stationary objects such as other vehicles, posts and garage doors, but is not sensitive enough to reliably detect smaller moving objects, such as animals, all-terrain vehicles, or children. These small objects might not generate a consistent warning beep, or even any warning at all. Thus, although parking assist systems, also called parking sonar, may be a great tool for parking, they cannot replace driver caution. It’s still up to drivers to check that there is no one in the way of their vehicle as they park.

The next generation of parking assist systems has begun to appear in high-end luxury cars, and it’s really quite amazing. Rather than using just sound sensors - which are somewhat inaccurate - the system uses a video camera and a complex computer program in conjunction with the sound sensors. Instead of just warning the driver when they get close, this next generation of parking assist actually steers and parks your car for you. This is really helpful with parallel parking - just so long as you’re willing to let your car work the steering, gas, and brake. What will they think of next?

The Last Word On SUV Covers

July 29, 2008

by F. Jane Green

Like most people we take vacations or plan long trips away from home. But with the price of gas many Americans are parking their SUVs and driving smaller vehicles. Remember though, whether we stay at home or on a trip some place, it is important to protect our vehicles when they are not in use.

Not all car covers are the same quality wise. And remember, where you live will determine what kind of cover will protect your car the best.

Let’s look at your SUV for example. Unless you have it parked under a roof for protection, all kinds of nasty things can happen to it in the course of time. UV rays from the sun can damage the finish and interior, bird droppings and bug splats can play havoc with the paint, wind storms can cause nicks and dents on the top and sides of your vehicle causing an unsightly look. Whew!

Car cover companies are starting to see better than average car cover sales for SUVs despite gasoline price increases. People are storing and protecting their SUVs with SUV covers in hopes that when gasoline prices start to decline they can start to drive them again undamaged.

It is pretty hard to sell a used SUV now, so car covers help to retain the vehicle’s value by protecting both the interior and exterior from wind, snow, rain, and sun. Car cover dealers are seeing an increase in sales of car covers, truck covers, and SUV covers as the price of fuel rises.

SUV covers do more than just cover your vehicle, you need to ask what are your needs and what kind of climate do I live in?

*Ask yourself do I need protection from the sun’s harmful rays? If you live in Florida you need a SUV cover offering that kind of protection from the hot sun.

*Do I need protection from the rain? If you live in the Northwest like Seattle and have no garage to store you SUV, a waterproof SUV cover would be the answer.

*How about the best car cover protection for winter weather? A car cover material so good that it provides superior protection against the worse elements mother nature can throw at us.

A good SUV cover with padded layers can not only protect against dents and scratches, but a quality SUV indoor car cover will protect against dust and dirt.

So whether its truck covers, car covers, or a SUV cover, be sure and buy the best car cover you can afford for the care and protection of you vehicles while in storage or just parked in the driveway while you enjoy your vacation.

Classic Car Parts Can Be Limited

July 28, 2008

by Rex Simpleton

So, what exactly is the definition of a classic car? This almost depends on who you ask. The answer seems to vary between different people, but let’s see if we can clear it up. A classic car is anything that was manufactured between 1925 and 1948. But, the term classic really means different things to different people, but they all agree it is something that will increase in value over time.

A classic car is the term used to describe an older automobile which was manufactured at least 25 years back. It is believed that the classic cars were sold at a higher price when they were new and were made in limited quantities. A classic car is more significant and valuable than any other ordinary car. A classic car is an excellent property for anyone.

While the value of a true classic car will increase over time, so will the parts that it takes to keep this car running. This is mainly because these parts are so difficult to find. Just like a rare baseball card has some crazy price tag for it, so will a hard to find classic car part.

To find classic car parts, you sometimes must look pretty hard. And, you must also be careful. Especially if you are getting used parts. But, the bright side, is there are many communities, which can lead you to a good parts store, or even a very good website that sells classic car parts.

One of the things you will need to look at when making a purchase of parts for your classic, is the condition and the working age of the parts. If you are buying online, try to get pictures and some sort of warranty or guarantee for the part before you make the purchase.

Just remember, that the term classic cars can vary amongst people. But, to the casual observer, they do not really care. They just know the beauty an old car, refurbished, with a fresh paint job, has.

Usually the classic car parts do not remain as fresh as the car, because they have been used more than the car. The engine would have worked well when the classic car would have been new, the paint may be chipped and the interior may be deteriorated. Most of the classic cars have been used and so one cannot expect the used car parts to be in very good condition.

The classic car parts may go through proper refurbishments and repairs before they go for sale. Thus, classic car parts are a significant market of the auto market. They are available at special auto parts store house but may be really difficult to find sometimes.

Full Face Helmet - Cars Or Motorcycles

July 28, 2008

by John Daniele

If you want to be safe don’t buy motorcycles. But if you want to save money over what cars cost then a cycle is not a bad choice. Reckless car drivers do not watch for cycles, which can cause accidents. All riders and drivers need to be cautious when on the road. One great tip for motorcyclist is to wear their helmet and turn their lights one when traveling.

To be safe there are a few things you will need to get. Start with some kind of helmet the one that is the most protective is the full-face helmet. Then there are the items that are often called leathers which is simply put the jacket and pants made of leather but also these days it could be Kevlar used. You will also need some gloves and some boots. All of these things together keep either your head protected somewhat from road burns or worse.

Cycles and cars have a certain presence that is appealing but in ways not similar to each other. Depending on which color and style you choose in the brand you like a car can be either big and clunky looking or small and sexy looking. With cycles it can be similar with the exception that bikes also show the whole body of the rider and cars do not.

Yes the motorcycles do show all a riders head and body when they ride they are fully exposed to the elements. Many people will be able to admire rider while they ride all decked out in their fancy duds. Guess who gets the most attention while riding though? Of course women do!

Cars really can consume a bunch of gas in a trip. Around here gas has now hit $4.00 a gallon on regular so this is a bit of a concern. People are having to give up activities to afford gas in their cars. Some people are even having to sell items that they would rather not to make ends meet.

The fuel consumption for cycles is unbelievably reasonable. Due to a cycle being more aerodynamically designed it moves down the road with less resistance. This causes the cycle to use less gas. Sometimes the motorcyclist will have to fill up more often due to smaller gas tanks so bikers feel they use more gas than a car but this is not so. Mileage truly is better with a cycle.

Maybe the largest thing that makes cycles and cars not alike is how much the cost is in getting one. Cars come to us with very price tags especially for new ones. There is no dodging that cars are an especially costly when you consider buying even a cheap used car you usually have to fix it more after you get it. Did you know that for the price of replacing an air conditioner in a care you could purchase a cycle? All the kinds of maintenance you have to deal with a car on is costly too. Emissions tests to get license, brakes, transmission repairs, and alignment and those are just some of the things it takes to maintain cars. The loss of 1/3 of the value of the car happens just leaving the lot the first day. You cannot only buy a cycle but all the leather protective gear you want plus more for less than the money you give for a car.

The motorcycles are still cheaper even when you price the cost of the leather gear you wear. The pants and jacket typically called leathers can get quite expensive but the rest of the gear is not too bad. All of it together is still much lower priced than a car. If you shop enough you can pick up a used cycle for about $300.00. When you look at the cost of gas being cheaper boy does your pocketbook feel good.

Water For Gas: Breaking Free From Gas Bondage

July 28, 2008

by Barry Crewse

Water for gas? Without a doubt you have been here about all kinds of ways to save money at the local pump and one of those ways is to consider a hybrid. Unlike the car you are probably driving right now, hybrids use a lot less gas than your pet guzzler. The Toyota Prius is the new kid on the block and although full of promise is clocking in at about 30K a copy. Way more than a lot of us can afford.

For those of you who don’t have thirty thousand dollars sitting in the bank, there’s no need to worry. There are several other alternatives to save money on gas. Even if the cost of the hybrid isn’t the issue, many folks don’t like the look and style of today’s hybrid cars. Also, if you don’t drive very often you aren’t going to reap the benefits of a hybrid.

The giant increase in prices we are seeing at the gas pumps everyday has got many people deciding to cut back on any non essential trips. You have probably already started combining errands as a way to save on your gas bill. You might even be thinking about the bus as a way to commute or even biking or walking if that is possible.

Regardless of how you can help minimize your driving, it’s a fact that most people need to drive their cars on a regular basis. One thing you might want to consider is an affordable system that lets you save hundreds of dollars a year on gas. This system is known as the water for gas powered vehicle, or hydrogen hybrid. With minor modifications to your current vehicle, you can easily turn your car into a hydrogen hybrid and thus require less gas to operate it.

Here are just a few things that might just get you to consider making the conversion:

*You can get a whole lot further on a tank of gas than you ever thought possible.

*You fuel efficiency is greatly improved.

*Cut the pollution you are creating by nearly 60%!

*Your engine will absolutely love you as you extend it’s life.

* Get a tax deduction for owning a hybrid.

*And the frosting on the cake? That huge chunk of change you save at the gas station!

It’s really easy to convert any vehicle to a water for gas system. You can find a lot of information on the Internet about water for gas. People are coming out of the woodwork talking about how successful this system is, and how they are getting several more miles to the gallon and pocketing hundreds of dollars a month that used to be spent on gas.

The concept of using the water for gas system is actually not a new one. Only until recently was it made practical for everyday folks to convert their vehicles. The system simply uses the existing car battery to separate the hydrogen from the water where it is then mixed with regular gasoline and burned to power your car. There are many new systems on the market now to convert and they are easy enough for most average people to install themselves.
